Former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly has come to the defense of Lionel Messi after the 2026 World Cup final.
The Argentina national team lost to Spain with a score of 0:1. After the match, the 39-year-old striker’s performance was criticized by fans and experts, but Ganguly urged not to evaluate a football player’s entire career based on one match.
According to the former Indian Cricket Board president, the Spanish team had a tactical advantage, limited their opponents' creativity and were able to isolate Messi on the field.
Ganguly also called Argentina's entry into the final a significant result. Messi has not yet made official statements about further performances for the national team.
