Uzbekistan’s Cabinet of Ministers approved regulations governing the Food Safety Committee and its sector development fund, according to Resolution No. 396 dated 21 July 2026.
The committee is designated as an independent national executive authority accountable to the president and the Cabinet. It is responsible for state policy and oversight in food safety, veterinary services and phytosanitary controls.
The authority must launch a unified automated platform using artificial intelligence by 1 March 2027. The system is intended for risk management and risk-based inspections, according to a presidential resolution issued on 12 May.
The same system must provide electronic public alerts about dangerous products. The committee’s powers include issuing warnings and ordering unsafe goods to be withdrawn, disposed of or destroyed.
A Food Safety Sector Development Fund has been established under the committee without separate legal-entity status. It will receive funds from product registrations, specialised services, expert reviews, licensing and permit procedures, and certain regulatory payments.
Resolution No. 396 was registered and took effect on 22 July. The agriculture and health ministries were instructed to align their regulations with the new rules within one month.
