Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Health has proposed reimbursing travel costs from the state budget for patients receiving scheduled haemodialysis.
Patients would be able to choose how they travel to and from a medical facility. The proposal covers taxis, private cars and other convenient forms of transport.
The expenses would be reimbursed under a procedure that has yet to be detailed. The ministry says the mechanism would save patients time and money and avoid tying them to one mode of transport.
The ministry is surveying patients before moving forward with the initiative. The survey runs until 15 August, and responses are expected to inform further development of the reimbursement mechanism.
The initiative remains a proposal. The published notice does not specify the reimbursement rules, payment amounts or a launch date.
