The second stage of Uzbekistan’s Clean Air month began on August 10, the National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change reported.
Checks are being carried out with the Road Safety Service at traffic police posts, on streets and at the entrances and exits of transport companies. Vehicles exceeding emission limits are temporarily taken out of service until they are repaired.
The second stage will run in the regions until September 10. Tashkent will hold the checks separately from September 10 to October 10.
During the first stage, held from April 10 to May 10, specialists tested 288,755 vehicles. Excessive pollutant levels were found in 1,384 vehicles, or 0.5% of the total.
A total of 446 drivers faced administrative action for serious violations. Specialists estimated that the checks prevented 836 tonnes of pollutants from being released.
The committee plans to publish updates on the checks and their results through the media and social networks.
