Uzbekistan introduced mandatory identification and registration for pets and farm animals on August 7.
Each animal receives a unique number through an ear tag, microchip or another marker. Details about the animal and its owner are entered into a unified state register.
Registration deadlines depend on the animal’s species and age:
- cattle, sheep, goats and camels — within 14 days of birth;
- pigs — from one month of age;
- dogs and cats — from three months of age;
- horses — from four months of age;
- animals imported from abroad — no later than 21 days after entry.
Owners have one month after the specified age is reached to complete registration. The system is intended to strengthen veterinary oversight, infection prevention and animal movement records.
Animals must be deregistered within seven days after death, slaughter, export or sale.
Keeping or breeding unregistered animals in Uzbekistan will be prohibited from January 1, 2028.
