A man born in 1977 has been detained in Tashkent on suspicion of attempting to obtain money from an entrepreneur under the pretext of resolving a dispute over a construction project.
The operation was conducted by the State Security Service, internal affairs agencies and the Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the Prosecutor General’s Office. Investigators say the suspect was detained while receiving a $30,000 advance.
He allegedly demanded a total of $360,000 and promised in return to persuade Chilanzar district residents to stop opposing construction of a private kindergarten and school on a 37-sotix plot.
A criminal case has been opened and investigative measures are continuing. The detainee’s guilt must be determined by a court.
