Uzbekistan’s law enforcement agencies said they had disrupted two groups whose members allegedly used force to influence the operation of beaches along the Charvak Reservoir.
Following a dispute, members of one group allegedly attacked representatives of the other and caused injuries. A criminal case was opened under the hooliganism statute, and four people were remanded in custody.
According to preliminary information, members of the second group assaulted a member of the first group who remained free on 16 July, using brass knuckles and a baseball bat. On 19 July, officers detained three alleged members of the second group and six other people linked to them.
Authorities are also checking an allegation that one detainee distributed prohibited religious material on social media. A pre-investigation inquiry into all the circumstances is continuing.
