Uzbekistan’s State Security Service and customs officers seized 2 kg 87 g of opium in Konimekh district of Navoi region, the security service reported.
Officers stopped a Cobalt car during the joint operation. A package containing the substance was found on a passenger, a Kazakh citizen born in 2002.
According to the agency, the drug had earlier been smuggled across the state border and left in a cache, where the detained passenger collected it.
A criminal case was opened against the man under Part 2 of Article 246 of the Criminal Code, which covers smuggling. He was remanded in custody and the investigation is continuing.
The security service asked the public to report suspected drug trafficking via the short number 1520 and said callers’ identities would be kept confidential.
