Uzbekistan’s Senate approved the constitutional law “On the Administration of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan” at its 18th plenary session.
The legislation defines the Presidential Administration’s legal status, principal duties, structure and operating procedures.
It also sets out the administration’s operating principles, mechanisms for cooperation with state bodies and organisations, and legal guarantees for its leadership and staff.
The revised Constitution provides the legal basis for the legislation. Chapter XIX defines the president’s role as head of state and the power to ensure coordinated work among public authorities.
Lawmakers reviewed models used to organise presidential and head-of-state offices in the United States, Finland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Latvia and Kazakhstan.
Senators said the law should improve the organisational, legal and analytical support provided to the head of state and strengthen cooperation between government bodies. The Senate approved it unanimously.
