Ilham Aliyev and Donald Trump held a phone call on August 8, the Azerbaijani presidential press service said.
The leaders discussed the first anniversary of the Washington summit. In their assessment, the joint declaration signed there and the initialing of an agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia consolidated peace in the region.
They noted that no incident capable of harming the peace process had occurred over the past year. Exports of Azerbaijani petroleum products to Armenia, cargo transit and the start of bilateral trade were cited as positive developments.
The TRIPP transport project was discussed separately. Infrastructure work in Azerbaijan is nearing completion, according to the press service, and the leaders voiced hope that construction in Armenia would begin soon.
Aliyev and Trump also discussed bilateral relations. They described the Azerbaijan-US strategic partnership document as historic and linked it to stronger regional stability.
The Azerbaijani president thanked Trump for the invitation to the G20 summit. Both sides expressed confidence that the strategic partnership would continue to develop.
