Uzbekistan plans to import 100,000 cattle and 150,000 sheep and goats by the end of 2026, the presidential press service said.
The instruction was issued at a meeting on economic growth, inflation and food security. The authorities also allocated 300 billion Uzbek soum to cover the cost of transporting imported meat by air.
Following the agricultural census, the authorities revised their data on conditions in the livestock sector. Additional financing will be provided for industry projects, although the official statement did not specify the amount.
The country plans to commission 340 cold-storage facilities with a combined capacity of 87,000 tonnes by the end of the year. Officials were also instructed to build up stocks of fruit, vegetables and potatoes and replenish food reserves.
The measures are intended to increase food supplies and curb price growth. The official publication did not identify the delivery timetable or the countries that will supply the livestock.
