Uzbekistan plans to direct $463 million to livestock development, the presidential press service reported.
The measures cover 2026–2028. Annual meat demand stands at 2.15 million tonnes while production is about 1.6 million tonnes; new projects and support for specialised districts are intended to add 190,000 tonnes.
The government has proposed reviving 103 livestock businesses that have stopped operating. Their debt may be restructured or repaid in instalments over up to ten years, while feed-growing land and breeding stock may also be provided. The plan is expected to support 33,000 cattle and annual output of 12,000 tonnes of meat and 40,000 tonnes of milk.
The plan calls for imports of 150,000 sheep from Mongolia, 100,000 pedigree cattle from China and European countries, and another 2,000 cattle from Belarus. The imports are expected to enable an additional 44,000 tonnes of meat production a year.
An Uzbekistan Livestock Breeders Association has also been proposed. It would represent farms, develop cooperation and breeding programmes, and assist with finance and access to foreign markets. The Smart Fermer app would let farmers identify livestock, call a veterinarian, apply for subsidies and receive guidance on feeding and pasture management.
Separate poultry projects worth $432 million are planned through 2028. They are intended to add 100,000 tonnes of poultry meat, raise compound-feed capacity to 3.3 million tonnes and expand modern industrial slaughter coverage from 20% to 50%.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed officials to assess project economics, target funding and introduce digital accounting.
