The US House of Representatives approved the H.R. 8800 defence bill on 22 July by 216 votes to 212, the official roll call shows.
The measure authorises about $1.15 trillion for defence programmes in fiscal year 2027. The published text shows that it is an authorisation bill rather than money that has already been appropriated.
The vote followed party lines: all 216 votes in favour came from Republicans, while 212 Democrats opposed the measure. Three House members did not vote.
The House Armed Services Committee said the measure covers military programmes, a pay increase for service members and steps intended to strengthen the defence industrial base.
H.R. 8800 has not yet become law. It must undergo further congressional action and be signed by the US president before taking effect.
