The US Federal Trade Commission has begun distributing more than $23.8 million to affected Grubhub customers and drivers, the regulator said.
Payments are being sent to 640,038 people. Most will receive checks by mail that must be cashed within 90 days, while PayPal recipients have 30 days to accept their payments.
The money follows a settlement reached after the FTC and the Illinois attorney general sued in December 2024. The complaint alleged that Grubhub misled drivers about potential earnings, restricted customers’ access to their accounts and funds, and listed restaurants without permission.
Under the settlement, Grubhub was required to advertise driver earnings accurately, give users a way to dispute blocked accounts, and list restaurants only with their consent.
Recipients with questions can contact the refund administrator at 1-888-446-4992. The FTC stressed that it never requires payment or bank account information to receive a refund.
