Unitree Robotics founder Wang Xingxing says humanoid robots could experience their own “ChatGPT moment” within two to three years and move significantly closer to autonomous operation.
He predicts robots will be able to carry out basic tasks from voice commands in unfamiliar environments, without a scenario programmed in advance for every room or process. He stressed that today’s systems have not yet achieved full autonomy.
Wang compared the current stage of robotics with personal computers 30 years ago. Humanoid platforms, he said, are already becoming tools for developers to train and improve artificial intelligence algorithms.
Potential uses include teaching engineering at home, working at events and shopping centres, and performing dangerous, heavy or repetitive tasks. These scenarios are forecasts rather than an announcement of a finished product.
Unitree was founded in Hangzhou in 2016. The company makes quadruped and humanoid robots and develops software to control them.
