Uber has fully exited delivery-robot developer Serve Robotics after gradually reducing its stake for about a year. The final disposal was disclosed in regulatory filings.
Serve Robotics learned of the final sale after the information was disclosed. The company emerged from Postmates X and became independent in 2021, one year after Uber acquired Postmates for $2.65 billion.
The companies signed a strategic sidewalk-robot delivery agreement in 2022. In May 2023, they planned to deploy up to 2,000 Serve devices across several US markets through the Uber app.
Serve Robotics founder and chief executive Ali Kashani said during the company’s second-quarter results call that deliveries through Uber grew for 17 consecutive quarters, from early 2022 through the start of 2026. The figure declined in the second quarter as robot utilisation fell below expectations.
Kashani said the companies differed over operating models for a shared autonomous fleet, including robot coordination and merchant integration. Serve Robotics’ volume with another food-delivery partner grew by almost 50% during the same quarter.
Serve Robotics does not plan to renew its agreement with Uber when it expires in early 2027. Uber had not publicly commented on the stake sale at the time of the report.
