Japan Airlines has joined the development of the Z4 passenger aircraft from the American startup JetZero.Details publishedin a message from JetZero and Japan Airlines.
The carrier will help adapt the project to real operation. The companies intend to jointly work on airport services, ground logistics and technical support.
The Z4 is designed using a mixed wing design, in which the wing and body form a single structure. According to the developer, it will reduce fuel consumption by 30–50% compared to modern airliners of comparable capacity.
The aircraft is designed for approximately 250 passengers and a range of up to 9,260 kilometers. JetZero plans to have the model ready for commercial flights in the early 2030s.
The developers also claim that the Z4 will be able to use existing taxiways, jet bridges and boarding gates without upgrading airports.
