Apple plans to launch an Apple Upgrade device-leasing programme with Klarna in the United States on 28 July, TechCrunch reported citing Bloomberg. The company has not officially announced the initiative.
The programme is expected to cover most iPhone, Mac, iPad and Apple Watch models. Terms would run for up to 24 months for iPhones and Apple Watches and up to 36 months for Macs and iPads.
Customers would be able to pay off the remaining balance early, keep a device at the end of the term, return it or move to a newer model. An additional fee may apply in some cases.
Enrolment would require a soft credit check. AppleCare would not be included in the standard programme terms.
Reported exclusions include the base iPad, iPhone 16, Apple Watch SE and MacBook Neo. Apple is also expected to stop new enrolments in the existing iPhone Upgrade Program.
Because the information concerns an unannounced initiative and comes from anonymous sources, the launch date and terms could change before an official Apple statement.
