Iranian club Persepolis has refused to release striker Igor Sergeev for a return to Tashkent side Pakhtakor, the Uzbek club’s head coach Kamoliddin Tadjiev said.
According to the coach, Sergeev chose to continue his career elsewhere after his previous contract expired. Pakhtakor wanted to retain the forward but was unable to reach an agreement at the time.
When Sergeev’s contract expired, he decided of his own accord to leave for another team. We wanted to keep him but could not. In the summer, we held talks about bringing him back, but his club Persepolis would not release him — Kamoliddin Tadjiev, Pakhtakor head coach
Sergeev made 29 appearances for Pakhtakor last season and scored 20 goals. The forward remains a Persepolis player.
