The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has announced Uzbekistan’s squads for the home Chess Olympiad in Samarkand.
Javokhir Sindarov, Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Nodirbek Yakubboev, Shamsiddin Vokhidov and Mukhiddin Madaminov will compete in the Open section. Rustam Kasimdzhanov is the captain.
Uzbekistan is seeded third behind the United States and defending champion India. The event has 208 Open teams and 192 Women’s teams, 20 more in total than the record field at the 2024 Olympiad.
Sindarov, Abdusattorov, Yakubboev and Vokhidov were part of the team that won the 2022 Olympiad. Uzbekistan took bronze in 2024, when Vokhidov also won an individual gold medal on his board.
The Women’s squad comprises Afruza Khamdamova, Gulrukhbegim Tokhirjonova, Nilufarkhon Imomkuzieva, Umida Omonova and Guldona Karimova. Nafisa Muminova is the captain, and the team is seeded 13th.
The opening ceremony is scheduled for September 15. Eleven rounds of classical chess will be played from September 16 to 27.
