Tashkent’s Traffic Management Centre has synchronized signals at 13 intersections along Buyuk Ipak Yuli Street.
The system creates a “green wave”: drivers who maintain the recommended speed reach each following intersection as its green light comes on.
The algorithm accounts for the distance between intersections. An average speed of 40–60 km/h is recommended for an uninterrupted trip through the coordinated section.
During the morning rush hour, the green wave runs towards the city centre. In the evening, the direction is reversed to support traffic leaving the centre.
The synchronization has reduced the number of stops and waiting time at traffic lights. Drivers estimate that trips through the updated section are about six to seven minutes shorter.
Specialists are calculating settings for a phased expansion of the system to other major roads in Tashkent.
