Uzbekistan plans to attract another $1.3 billion for the development of drinking water supply and sewerage systems. The goal of the program is to increase the coverage of centralized water to 90 percent, and urban sewerage to 80 percent.Details publishedin a message from the Press Service of the President of Uzbekistan.
In recent years, investment in the industry has grown tenfold and reached $2.7 billion. The share of the population with access to centralized water increased from 63 percent in 2017 to almost 83 percent.
During this time, 7.7 million people gained access to water for the first time, the quality of supply improved for 11 million residents, and another 1.1 million were connected to sewerage. The country built and reconstructed 39 thousand kilometers of water supply and 3.2 thousand kilometers of sewer networks.
In the Surkhandarya region, the project for supplying water from the Tupalang reservoir continues. The water pipeline has already reached Termez, and they plan to connect Sherabad, Muzrabad, Angora and Jarkurgan districts to it by the end of the year.
The authorities also intend to provide another 513 mahallas with centralized water and improve the supply in three thousand mahallas. Instead of 232 thousand street water pumps, they want to connect houses directly to the networks.
