From August 9, customers at Uzbek banks may buy up to $500 in cash foreign currency without a passport, ID card or another identity document.
Previously, purchases without identification were limited to $100. The threshold has therefore increased fivefold.
The new procedure was established by a departmental regulation that took effect on August 9.
The change applies specifically to purchases of cash foreign currency at banks.
Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Justice linked the change to simpler procedures and greater convenience for the public.
